Favouite videogame soundtracks
At the moment, my favourite musical score is from Uncharted 2. It's really quite emotional in some places and very epic in others. Overall, extremely professional and effective.
What about you lot?

I don't know about favourite, but there's a few I like, including The World Ends With You and Phoenix Wright.

Re: Favouite videogame soundtracks
Obviously Metroid...
...
The Okami soundtrack is stunning, the music is just such a perfect fit for the game, and it makes for good listening outside of the game. I also obviously have an unhealthy obsession with the Endless Ocean soundtrack because it contains Hayley westenra's stunning vocals. Endless Ocean 2 has a nice soundtrack too, and some of the stuff in that is sung by Celtic Woman, of which Hayley is a member, so she is in the game, contrary to what I had feared prior to it's release.
The Mario Galaxy soundtrack is also worthy of a mention given as how it's fully orchestrated.

zelda soundtrack is great, actually i dont think i would be as much of a fan if they hadnt used the soundtrack like they do in the game. they use the music as homages to the earlier games (the title screen for Ocarina is based around the flute noise from the first game) they also use the music to hint towards non a lot of refferences . the character that is a reference to saria is ilia the japanese alphabet use the same character for L that they use for R so saria and ilia were picked over salia or iria because they sound better in our language. really they are the same thing. anyway ilias theme is just the melody of sarias theme with the notes inverted. also midnas theme is very similar to zeldas. also they use it very dramatically, like in a scene where zelda and midna are talking to eachother it plays a medly where both of their songs are playing at the same time. in ways like this its really like a different game to long term fans of the series.

I've been listening to Super Mario Galaxy 2's soundtrack recently, and I can confirm that although it's great...overall it's not as good as the first.

How has no one mentioned RareWare yet? Their games have consistently awesome soundtracks full of memorable, catchy tunes. They definitely hit their peak in the N64 era, especially in the music department. Half the fun of Nuts & Bolts on the 360 is the Nostalgia Factor - one of the levels is basically a museum for Banjo Kazooie & Tooie, complete with an arrangement of the level themes.
Fallout 3, and to a lesser extent Bioshock have made me take an interest in 1940s jazz . Similarly, Vice City got me into 80s music . In both Fallout 3 and Vice City I love the dissonance between the cheery music and the utter carnage on screen (though in Fallout's case, once you pay attention to the lyrics then the songs fit in PERFECTLY with the situation - "Civilisation" indeed).

Other M's Ridley theme sounds absolutely brilliant. Here's hoping they release an OST disk!

D: I loved Sonic Adventure 2 Battle's soundtrack. So many good songs. I get all happy every time I hear E.G.G.M.A.N. Sonic and The Secret Rings however...didn't like the soundtrack. Seven Rings In Hand is not one of my favourites.

Seven Rings In Hand did annoy me at first, but give it a chance it'll grow on you.
Re: Favouite videogame soundtracks
Possibly, songs grow on me eventually. That happened to me with Twister from The World Ends With You.
