Touhou Project
Another dire attempt to get people to notice this series or to drag out any fans from the depths of the forum.
The Touhou series is a collection of curtain fire "danmaku" shooters which rely heavily on precise, slow moving pattern of bullet fire. Sounds a bit simple right? Wrong, there's often a craptonne of bullets on screen at once, no exaggeration.
Besides it's quite frantic gameplay, the series is well know for it ludicrously high number of unique characters, most of which are female (there's only one male character I can think of, and he isn't even in the games XD). Every fan of the series has their favourites, but there's simply to many to have a specific individual favourite XD
The series also has fantastic music, even if they're all FM synth based XD
Here's the first video of a run I did not too long ago on the 8th title in the series, Imperishable Night (There are 12 game in the series so far, with 4 spin offs, 3 of which are fighting games. The first 5 are for the Japanese only PC-98 series computers while the remaning games are on the PC).
And here's someone considerably better than me XD

Just to let you guys know, the second video above is hella speeded up, with the exception of the audio. It's a replay, so the player probably set it to high speed or something.
If you watched my video above it, then you'd know it's quite a bit slower XD

He already got me into this. And I don't regret letting him! Though why some shmup fans say Touhou ruined the genre, I don't know...

They're probably afraid of loli, despite the fact every character is at least of legal age XD

The Scarlet Sisters would debate this. They look 10, and are over 500 years old. So, are they Loli or not!? XD

Loli simply means looks childlike really, doesn't necessarily mean they ARE children.shinkukage09 wrote:Komodo_Zero wrote:They're probably afraid of loli, despite the fact every character is at least of legal age XD

Last I checked, definition of loli is anyone between the age of something below 12 to 15...XD Either way, I say the Scarlet sisters are Loli just by looks.
lolita is used in to refer to a young girl, frequently one who has only recently reached the age of consent, or appears to be younger than the age of consent.
Wikipedia disagrees. While yes, lolita can mean a young child, but it also counts for women who look younger than they are.
Something tels me this conversation might scare some people away from playing the games...

Either way, I'd seriously recommend this series to anyone. Especially shmup fans.

I remember Nillix telling me about this a while ago, The precision needed although skillful, really doesn't interest me.
Re: Touhou Project
The Touhou games are HARD. It's not a series for casual shmup fans.

*Shudders*
It actually turns out I'm better than a surprisingly high number of players out there. Just because I can do easy mode of all things...

With the influx of casual gamers, that statement probably applies to alot more aspects of gaming than you think lol
Re: Touhou Project
Probably true, but I like to feel special XD
Anyone who finds the Touhou games easy are BEASTS at gaming though o_O

Re: Touhou Project
Either way goes I guess.
I want to improve my playing skills to be honest, but I simply don't put enough time into it.
It's not like my massive Osu! spree I had last summer, I became too good too quickly there XD

Re: Touhou Project
That "you're good at this therefore you have no life" argument only applies to MMORPGs; in games of skill, you can just be a very quick learner and adapt well to the game, or you can not adapt to the game. My cousins, who play video games maybe even more than my brother and I, and my sister whose experience consists of Mario Party and Lego Star Wars, each played against the other on From Russia With Love, which neither of them has played before. Our cousins have experience with similar games though, but my sister DOMINATES them. Another time, our cousins are bragging about how awesome they are at some James Bond game. I'm in second, around 20 kills lower than my brother. Our cousins are way way way way way way way behind us, like 50 or 60 kills, and my brother and I don't really even fully understand the game. If it was about playing more, our cousins should have beaten us. I don't mean to put down the people that have trouble with games, but some people are just quicker learners.
So compared to similar "bullet hell" games, like Tyrian (actually far less bullet hellish than Touhou appears to be), how is this game?

Re: Touhou Project
It's really fun. It's strange, a game so hard and you'd expect to go into extreme fits of anger during harder sections. I have not ever gotten angry at these games (except in the videos, purely to entertainment's sake though XD).
The script is ludicrously simple. It usually follows the lines of: -
"Big Bad does something bad for selfish reasons, you go out to defeat her, once defeating her you end up having tea with her..."
Really. However, the dialogue is simply grand. It's so quirky XD

For those who haven't noticed, I've actually been cycling Touhou based avatars (I know Shinkukage has). It started with Utsuho on the old forum, then Yukari was the first avatar I used here, now it's Sakuya.
Just shows how much this series has influenced me XD
