Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
*sigh*
I hear many people say that PC Gaming is dieing. But then I look at the vast range of MMOs still attracting millions of players Worldwide, and games like Fallout 3, Spore (O_O) , and many others which make me still think that PC Gaming is alive. Another one to mention is Mass Effect, it's great on the PC but doesn't get as much recognition as the consoles.
I'd love to see a great investment in PC gaming this decade, I think there is still a huge market for it, and would love to see PC Gaming make a big return this year!
I mean, Cataclysm (check my sig) is out in September, and will definetley once again attract more newbies to Wow!

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
I've said this before, GhostAnime disagrees with me and tells me to stop saying it. Mouse and keyboard has worked for so long, I don't think PC gaming will die just yet, but I do think more support and better advertising needs to be given.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
I mean, it's FREE ONLINE. What more do they want? ^_^
Yeah, I'd love large investments to go into PC Gaming, Blizzard are an inspiration <3.
I think companies like Valve still know how to create a great PC Game to. At least the Football Management Simulation on the PC is at an all time high.
That's ONE of the things PC has had over Consoles. The Management Simulations on the consoles and the handhelds have been utter crap, the PC versions have been simply epic.

I think soon enough, large companies will start to notice that PC Gaming is reviving. It'll come back with a bang, fo' sure.

Can you give us some examples of this? Other than the popularity of WoW
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
Well, you said yourself that Fallout 3 is excellent. It's better than a console game by far.
I think that as I said earlier, Management Sims have got bigger and bigger since the start of 'Football Manager' , one of my favourite PC games. Spore attracted alot of attention, although I don't see it being that great myself.
Also, when CoD came to PC, a lot of glitchers went on to mod up the game, not that I condone that, but atleast it shifted some more players onto the free online!

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
That's pretty much the best example. Obviously if WoW is growing, so is PC gaming. MMOs as a genre is pretty much getting bigger too. Valve has reached the 360 fanbase, and as Matt said some gamers are finally coming to realize what advantages PC gaming has. Only thing holding it back is cost.

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
I have to admit, dedicated PC gamers who have played since the start have always stood by PC gaming, my friend Rich loves PC gaming! He would agree here.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
Well, PC Games are a bit overpriced, I must admit. But generally, MMO 60 day cards etc. are cheaper than Xbox Live.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
Overpriced? Most of the places I look, PC games drop in price by $30 or $40 just a couple weeks after their release, while the same game as sold for any console stays at the same price for a year. Unless you're talking about MMO's... and most MMO's are just lame. Having to pay in order to keep playing is the lamest thing ever. You should be able to buy the game, and then just play the game. No more of that subscription crap. I hate video game subscriptions...
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
PC gaming isn't dying, it's going through a transition. The old business models are no longer the best way to sell your product, and hence make as much money as possible. The PC market is gearing towards a "freemium" structure where the game itself is cheap, maybe even free, and you have to pay to get just what you want from it. Farmville on Facebook is a prime example if you've ever played it.
PC gaming can never die, because it's the work that goes into developing computer hardware that drives hardware in the console market. PCs are at the forefront of development, and if a revolution happens, it will happen there.

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
With things like Steam Gaming will never die on the PC!
Have you seen the sales that Steam has?
mind = blown!

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
Two good valid reasons, I take back my statement, i've been proven wrong.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
PC games are cheaper than the 360 & PS3 verisons on multi-platform games. I can't see PC gaming dieing to be honest. Yes, the PC has bad privacy but games such as WoW (which I will never play but I do fancy giving it another go) having a massive following boosts confidence into PC developers.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
Betweem Steam and Warcraft I don't see PC Gaming dying, It's a conpletely different media of gaming. I don't like conparing it to console gaming for that reason.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
PC gaming will not die there are to many developers that want to take WoW from it's pedestal, plus the PC world is on the verge of going through a change, we just need wait for that one revolutionary PC game to come out.
Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
I don't think it's 'dying' per say, but it's certainly the least popular format of gaming nowadays. I'm not sure if it's because no-one can be bothered to keep upgrading hardware whenever necessary, or some other reason.

I want an uber PC. I have the money for an uber PC. I'll soon have the time fr an uber PC. Will I buy an uber PC?
No.
I won't need an uber PC at uni, especially given the notoriously shocking down/upload speeds through their shared connection. Not to mention the lack of privacy.

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
I don't believe any of this twaddle about PC gaming dying, if anything PC gaming is moving from retail releases to digital distribution methods like Steam. But if anything, more developers prefer console development then to games on PC. But I think with what Blizzard and Valve do will show that PC is still a viable market.
Then again I could be saying complete nonsense.

Re: Is the PC Gaming World crashing?
PC Gaming is more alive than ever, with the uncoming release of StarCraft 2, and the much-awaited Engineer Update for TF2, as well as a reworking of CS:S, and the rising popularity and acceptance of games such as WoW Arenas and DotA clones (e.g. Heroes of Newerth) in competitive circles means that, as far as serious competitive play is concerned, the PC is the system that rises, nay, soars above all others. (Also, competitive FPS play on consoles is often mocked by PC gamers due to the lack of precision offered by a joypad in comparison to a mouse and keyboard)
In addition to this, the PC is at the forefront of Digital Distribution thanks to systems such as Steam, Direct2Drive and Green Man Gaming (a DigDis website that allows you to trade in your games for credit) that I no longer have a need for a DVD drive on my PC, and replaced it with a second 500GB HDD, allowing me to download more games!
I built this PC with my own two hands, and have poured blood, sweat, tears and upgraded components into it, and many more young people around the world are starting to do this themselves. PC Gaming is not, and will never die!
Ok, well I'm glad I got that out of my system
