360 or PS3? Help me choose!
I have been trying to decide which would suit me best. My friend has recently told me he's going to give me his broken 360, I am hoping that it's a simple fix that he can't be bothered to take action on, and I pick up a cheap 360 in the process.
But if that fails, what should I go for? Help me make a choice! I'm coming to you guys because before, you helped me make a good choice on a phone (Thanks Pwiimus!)

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
Depends on your preference of games. You really have to do some researching on this one. Just look at the exclusives and the online offers or innate system features.

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
He's my argument;
- Online! We all know that 360 costs money, but you know why? Because it's MILES better than the PS3 online. I mean, it's just nicely set out, easy party system and the online gameply itself has been thought through better.
- Exclusives! Depends what you're after, but in my opinion, exclusives on the 360 are superior to the ones on the PS3. What's PS3 going to give us? ANOTHER Killzone? . Fable III is on the horizon, along with Halo Reach and Natal! It's going to be a great year for the 360
- Loading times. I did a test with a friend at a sleepover. We got a 360 and a PS3 and loaded GTA IV at the same time. The 360 loaded it quicker by about 40 seconds, AND it loads faster in game aswell as not freezing up as much
- RROD? So? I mean, all the Sony fanboys talk about the RROD? Microsoft have a 3 year warranty on that! 3 years. Anyway, the Gadget Show did a thing on PS3s and their breakability. Turns out they have some form of problem like that aswell! But Sony charge to fix it, Gadget Show did it for free you see!
- Controllers! I was playing on a PS3 the other day, and I must say, the analong sticks are HORRIBLE on the Playstation, maybe it's just me playing on the 360 so much, but they're just to loose for my liking.
I could babble on for ours, but I need to take a picture of mah' tribly <3

PS3 has a great design, it hasn't had to change at all.
My reasons for getting a 360 would be the fact that loads of people I know has one, it'll be fun to play games with them.

Now for my chip in.
The PS3 load times are due to Blu-rays for the most part. Larger capacity, new technology, it doesn't quite have as fast a readability as a DVD does, but there's the data install for the time being.
Another thing which I'll point out, the Blu-ray has a FAR superior capacity.
Example: -
Final Fantasy XIII
360 - 3 discs, all data is compressed.
PS3 - 1 disc, all data is uncompressed.
If you happen to like fighting games, you will definately want to get a PS3. Why? Because it has a d-pad that actually works XD
I also did a quick calculation once, truns out that in order to get a 360 Elite 120GB up and running (this is the console, 12 months Gold and the wireless adaptor device), it would cost pretty much the same as a PS3 250GB.
In the end, I say you should make your decision purely on exclusive games. Look around, check a few games lists on wikipedia and scope out which games on each console you want.

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
Everything you get from a 360, you get from a PC, that's the crux of my first set of points. 360 comes with no integrated wireless, and then charges a shameful £60 odd for a function included as standard in the other two current generation consoles. There's also your Live subscription if you want to actually use your shiny new 360 in the way it was intended for a limited time. If you buy the best value for money subscription, which is a year for £40, that's £100 you've already chucked at solving a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place. I find the idea of paying to use your own internet connection, which you're already paying to use in the first place a complete farce. At a lower price I might accept it, but for the asking price, all I see is a scam. Then, god forbid you ever run out of storage on your hard drive and don't want to delete data to free up space, you'll be paying through the teeth for an official hard drive. External hard drives are selling these days for less than £1 for every 10GB of storage space. At best the 360 can only manage just over 2GB to the pound, and for that you have to buy a whopping great 250GB hard drive which you're almost certain to never fill, and at a cost of £100, that's a total of £200 that you needn't have spent, meaning that you're effectively paying for the console twice.
Sony have done an excellent job of driving down the price of the PS3 over the last few years, and it's now in a position where it's sitting at an incredibly attractive price point. It also has wi-fi and free online as a standard, so there's £100 you've already saved. It won't scratch your disks, it will play your DVDs and Blu-ray movies, and both will look stunning when you do so. You're not likely to ever run out of hard drive space, and if you do, you can chuck in any old internal hard drive so long as it's the correct dimensions, so you'll likely end up paying a lot less for a lot more storage, so more savings are incurred.
From my point of view, looking at the Microsoft business model, giving you a bog standard unit and forcing you to sell your granny to upgrade it to the standard it should have come out of the box at, and comparing it to the Sony model of giving you the unit and off you go on your merry way, the former is ludicrously unappealing. I'd buy a PS3. It's come to a point where the PS3 is indeed worth the price you're paying for it, and the experience you get for that price will be excellent.
For a tad of balance, this is from somebody who owns a 360, and has done since Summer 2007. Everything about it is second hand, and I don't pay for Gold. It's my budget console, and I don't spend more than £20 per game. That's how I like to use my 360. Being bled out through my wallet is not.

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
Just wanted to say guys, thanks for the contributions so far, i'm going to read them all back at once and have a think about it, taking into account pros and cons. I'll definately do the research like some of you suggested!
Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
The deciding factor whether to purchase a 360 or PS3 is the exclusives. Both consoles have the same games offer the same amount enjoyment. The infrastructure of XBL is more reliable than the PSN, but for free online the PSN infrastructure is top notch for free.
You can get a PS3 for £230? Not a bad price at all now seeing as everything is going towards blu-ray and 3D which will excel quite well for the PS3 in the perspective.
Got some good games coming out this year exlcusive wise:
God Of War 3
Heavy Rain
ModNation Racers
Gran Tourismo 5
MAG - Out now!

Who needs Killzone. Even though I have Killzone 2 and finished the game and enjoyed the online. It has nothing on God Of War III
Pandora's Box edition I want as it comes with GOW 1 & 2 collection re-done to the blu-ray
Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
I was making a cynical comment about Killzone being the only exclusive which Sony <3 to promote, when really it's crap. ;D

Your opinion sunshine. At least I can keep my head held up high that I am not playing WoW - The Social Life I Once Had Before.

Teehee ^_^
Yeah, as a Microsoft man, I would have that opinion to be totally fair, if I liked Sony it would be completely different.
The great thing about me is, unlike 88.5% of WoW players, It has not actually affected my social life 8D
Gran Turismo now, I am jealous of. I still like GRID better, but it beats Forza.

I have both the 360 & PS3. Though I play my PS3 more than I do with the 360. Yes I do like Gears, Forza, Mass Effect and Fable. I mainly play the PS3 as of the online and tend to buy the PS3 multi-platform games because of the online and future DLC.
You know it makes sense
Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
*jumps into the thread* Imma have my say!
In a counter argument against Matt, reasons why you should get a PS3:
The Online - It provides the same ammount of fun as Xbox (i know because I've had one, btw). I see no difference in the ammount of DLC we get either, apart from PS3 getting one or two less demos than 360. Also we don't have to pay for ours, making the PS3 cheaper in the long run! BOOYAH! (I was shocked to find out I had to whip out another £60 simply for me to have wireless internet, so adding that uo... Xbox: £60 + £20/£30/whatever = approx £90. PS3: connect to router, BOOM!)
Exclusives - Yeah, Killzone was a bit pap IMO, but there are some real stunners out there! I'm going to mention Metal Gear Solid 4 as the biggest standout out of them all. We also have the uber-realistic looking GT5 on the way! The majority of the worthy Xbox exclusives are now all dated, like Halo and GoW.
Controller - MATT THAR'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.
Bugs/Issues - still likely, but waaaay less chance of getting the yellow light of death than the RROD.

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
You're welcome Darren
I'd go for a 360, after owning 2 PS3's I've traded both in for 360's because for some odd reason I've got bored with it real quick.
Traded my last 1 in just b4 Xmas so as to be ready for Mass Effect 2, and with Crackdown 2, Halo Reach and Natal coming this year I couldn't be happier.
Mass Effect 2 Rules by the way, best game of the last Decade easily

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
Ben, thanks! I forgot all about the connectivity of wireless internet. My 360 would be upstairs on the opposite side of the house for gaming, explains my poor speeds sometimes, but yeah..there's no way around it, i'm not running a cable right across the house for it to be wired.
Is there another way around this than having to pay a fortune to get it wireless?

You can get thos plug in extenders, but they cost more than the wireless adaptor, however they don't suffer from weak signals.

Re: 360 or PS3? Help me choose!
I have an ethernet cable going across my house XD
I drilled a hole in my roof, stuck the cable up in the attic, then dragged it across the attic, and drilled a hole down into the room where the router is. ^_^
Also Darren, if you do get a 360. I suggest looking at http://www.thekidsdaily.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=18
