Wii and DS officially confirmed as most successful systems ever by Nintendo

It has been officially announcd that the Nintendo Wii and DS systems have beaten company records, by surpassing the NES and Gameboy systems! The Wii has now sold 67.45 million units worldwide, beating the NES which sold 61.91 million. The DS has sold a massive 125 million units worldwide, which has beaten the mighty Gameboy, which sold 118.59 million units.

This is an incredible achievement for Nintendo, and it just goes to show that they still have it. Where do they go from here? What can Nintendo do to continue to raise the amount of systems they sell?

It's unfortunate that when this happens, most of the veterans aren't happy and the part of the market they profited from weren't the same foundations they had in the previous years, but a good feat nonetheless.

I feel Nintendo have been lucky really, DS was a massive risk, but it paid off.

I don't think it was that much of a risk. It still mostly had Game Boy features. I knew it would at least do as well as the other handheld systems.

The DS and the Wii have both been epic consoles, and the obvious reason that they're the best selling is because they appealed to the casual generation.

Nonetheless, that's great news.!

And now we see Microsoft and Sony catering to the casual market to take a slice of the Get-Rich Pie with the Sony Motion Controller and Natal from Microsoft.

It's too late, they're good at doing what they do already, no need to change themselves.

Well they want to beat Nintendo. They either have to come up with a new gimmick all together or copy what Nintendo did. It's all about the cash.

I mean, if the Nintendo bandwagon is riding strong, then everyone's gonna try there own version of it to make money, just the way the world works.

Sony did very well for a time, but Nintendo are back. I have no idea what to think of the next generation though..

Well, again, this is a different feeling to the Nintendo dominance in the past. The past had veteran gamers loving Nintendo, but now I can hardly find a real Nintendo fan despite them "coming back". I can still hardly play a video game with anybody around me. 360 still prevails in the "traditional" gamers department unfortunately, and I don't consider it a real comeback.

XBox is where all the hardcore gamers seem to have defunked to, me included. It just took me 2 years longer.

Are there any prizes for being a "Hardcore" gamer?

Do you make money by targeting a minority?
